About Sophie Luck
Hi, I'm Sophie! I am a fourth year Art/Sculpture student at IADT Dun Laoghaire. I am half Irish, half French but grew up in Munich before moving to Dublin.
I make interactive life-size sculptures. My Sculptures are very geometric and based on recognisable, pre-existing objects in contemporary society. My Practice is informed by human observation, specifically how strangers are forced to be intimate due to limited space and the effect it has on their behaviour in public spaces. My Sculptures aim to create a space where this behaviour is emphasised or exaggerated. My final designs will incorporate elements from both of my observations to create a fresh perspective on an everyday issue that a large demographic can relate to.
It is very important to me as an artist that the viewer can interact with and immerse themselves into the work, as well as become part of it; for example, by being able to sit in it. I believe that the immersive experience persuades the viewer to really to think about the fresh perspective that is being presented, rather than walking by and dismissing it. Although sculpture is my primary focus of my practice, I also paint and occasionally do collaborative photography works.
